Motorcyclist killed in crash on Coast Highway in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) – A motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle, motorcycle crash on Coast Highway in Oceanside Saturday afternoon.

Oceanside Police responded to the scene at approximately 1:53 p.m. after receiving reports of the accident near West Street. According to authorities, a group of five to six sport motorcycles were traveling north on Coast Highway when a driver slowed for a vehicle that had stopped in the northbound lane and was making a left turn.

A second driver, unaware of the initial slowdown, collided with the motorcycle in front of him. Both drivers were thrown from their motorcycles and into oncoming traffic, police said.

One of the drivers was struck by a Toyota Yaris traveling south on the Coast Highway. The second driver continued to pass the Yaris and collided with another vehicle.

The driver struck by the Toyota suffered serious head and chest injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

His identity is being kept secret until his next of kin is notified. The second driver suffered injuries but was treated at the scene. The drivers of the vehicles involved were not injured.
