Schefter suggests Dolphins trade for Broncos QB Zach Wilson

At an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show On Monday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter hinted at the injury-plagued player Miami Dolphins – right down to their third-string quarterback – turn to them Denver Broncos regarding the availability of backup Zach Wilson.

Schefter also dismissed Pittsburgh's Russell Wilson and Cleveland's Dorian Thompson-Robinson as potential QB trade targets for the Dolphins.

“I would call Denver and say, 'What would you like for Zach Wilson?'” he asked rhetorically.

Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in 2021, was acquired from the New York Jets before the draft in April. He lost the starting job to Broncos rookie Bo Nix, but made the 53-man roster after completing 28 of 44 pass attempts for 397 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions this preseason.

Wilson, 25, is currently Denver's third quarterback behind Nix and Jarrett Stidham.

“He’s got starter tools all over the place,” general manager George Paton said in August. “It was pretty cool just watching him with no expectations. He can just go out and play football. He has all the qualities. It has all the starting properties in the world. He's still working on some things. You can see that well and the last week in the game he's as good as anyone in the league, he's a great kid in this league.”

The Broncos would save $2.726 million against the salary cap if they traded Wilson before the NFL's Nov. 5 deadline.
