Springfield man arrested on multiple charges after domestic violence

SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield man was arrested Thursday morning on charges including aggravated domestic violence and obstructing access to emergency services after local police responded to a reported active domestic disturbance.

Springfield Police Department officers identified as Ofc.

Callahan and Corporal Perkins arrived at a residence at 32 Valley Street around 9:11 a.m. after receiving a call regarding the incident.

During the investigation, they concluded that Eric L. Chambers allegedly assaulted a victim and prevented the person from calling emergency help.

Chambers, who was found to have violated previously issued release conditions, was taken into custody without incident at 9:29 a.m.

He was processed by the Springfield Police Department, where he was fingerprinted, photographed and issued a criminal complaint.

The defendant is scheduled to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit at 12:30 p.m. on September 23 to answer the charges.

Following the arrest, Chambers was taken to the Southern State Correction Facility and is being held without bail.

Police clarified that bail and detention decisions are made by the judiciary, not the police.
