Traffic stop in Boston uncovers drugs, leads to arrest

BOSTON – A routine traffic stop by Boston Police officers led to the arrest of a Dorchester man on drug charges Friday after they discovered he was driving a stolen vehicle.

At approximately 5:29 p.m., officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) stopped a vehicle whose license plate cover was darkened, making it difficult to read the license plate.

The stop occurred near the intersection of Washington and Park streets.

After initiating the traffic stop using their patrol car's lights and sirens, officers were able to read the vehicle's license plate and determine that the car was reported stolen.

They approached the driver, Lawrence Chaney, 38, of Dorchester, and asked him to get out of the vehicle.

During a search, officers found seventeen plastic bags of crack cocaine in Chaney's fanny pack.

Chaney was arrested and charged with possession of Class B drugs and receiving stolen property.

The suspect is expected to face these charges at his arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
