A man driving a motorcycle died in a fiery single-vehicle collision near Ship Creek Friday evening that sent the other driver to the hospital with injuries, Anchorage police said.

Officers responded shortly after 9:40 p.m. Friday near North Post Road and Yakutat Street in an industrial area around Ship Creek in the north part of the city for a reported car-motorcycle accident, police said in an online update .

Preliminary information indicates that the motorcyclist traveling on North Post Road and a man collided with a Dodge Charger, resulting in both vehicles catching fire, police said.

“A bystander pulled the motorcyclist from the fire and performed life-saving measures until officers and paramedics arrived,” Anchorage police said. The fire department later said the motorcyclist was dead at the scene of the accident, police said.

Paramedics took the driver of the Dodge to a hospital with injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.

“The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation,” police said. “No charges have been filed.”
