Accused Trump shooter Ryan Wesley Routh hid in the sniper's nest for nearly 12 hours before being discovered by the Secret Service

Trump assassin suspect Ryan Wesley Routh set up a sniper's nest near the former president's golf course and hid there for nearly 12 hours before the apparent ambush attempt, federal prosecutors said Monday.

Routh's cellphone rang starting at 1:59 a.m. Sunday at the location on the edge of Trump International West Palm Beach, the federal criminal complaint says.

His gun barrel was discovered by a Secret Service agent around 1:30 p.m. – while Trump was on the range 300 to 500 meters away.

In the sniper's nest, officers found a digital camera, two bags and a loaded SKS rifle with a scratched and illegible serial number, the complaint says.

SKS-style rifles are not manufactured in Florida and the weapon was imported from either another state or country, the complaint states.

Shortly after the Secret Service agent shot Routh, a witness saw the suspect speed away from the golf course in a Nissan sport utility vehicle with stolen license plates.

Routh was later caught by authorities on I-95.

According to the lawsuit, Routh was convicted in Greensboro, North Carolina, in 2002 after he was found with a weapon of mass destruction and mass destruction.

According to the complaint, he was later convicted in 2010 of multiple counts of possession of stolen goods.
