Kate Winslet says Leonardo DiCaprio 'kneeled' in 'Titanic' door scene.

In an interview with the Happy, sad, confused Podcast, the lee The actress talked about filming the climactic sequence in which Rose floats on a door fragment while Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack freezes – and the conditions weren't nearly as dangerous as they looked on screen. “It was quite an awkward tank because – to pop a bubble, it was waist high,” Winslet revealed. “I'm afraid Leo is kneeling at the bottom of the tank.”

Of utmost importance


Winslet said the tank's maneuverability allowed her to take frequent bathroom breaks without much difficulty. “I regularly asked myself, 'Can I just go pee?'” she remembers. “And then I got up, walked away from the door, walked to the edge of the tank, which was 20 feet away, and I literally had to throw my leg over it, climb out of the tank and go pee, and then come back and go to the door again creep. I know it's terrible to admit these things.

The tank was constantly circulating water, which caused significant audio problems in the sequence. “The amazing thing about the edges of the tank was that it was an infinity tank, so there was constantly rushing water and you could hear the constant sound of the water,” Winslet said, noting that the cast had to re-record their lines after they finished of filming. “Which, I tell you all, means that the last 22 minutes of this film are completely looped.

The actress feared that her words might cause her trouble. “I shouldn’t say any of this,” she said. “Jim Cameron will call me and say, 'Why are you telling them all this?'”

Winslet also recalled missing several opportunities to see the film when it was released in theaters in 1997. “When it premiered in London I felt really bad,” she said. “I had terrible food poisoning and was actually in hospital in London. It was completely strange. And then when it came out in the US, I was actually at my friend's funeral. I mean, it's a terrible thing. “Think about it now,” she said of the death of her former partner Stephen Tredre. “So I kind of missed everything surrounding the release of Titanicwhich, I don't know, is the universe's way of protecting me from something or just reminding me to do the things that matter.”

The actress finally looked Titanic in a crowded theater in New York. “I snuck in with two friends and that’s where I saw it for the first time,” she said. “I just remember thinking, ‘Oh my God. It's full. That's strange. It's a crowded theater. I'm in one of those movies where people actually go and fill every seat.' That was pretty strange.

Winslet's new drama lee is playing in the cinema now.
