Where did Helene come to Florida? See where the hurricane made landfall

After lashing Florida's west coast with winds, heavy rain and storm surge, Hurricane Helene hit near Perry, Florida, at 11:10 p.m. Thursday as a strong Category 4 storm with estimated winds of 140 mph and occasional gusts of up to 99 miles per hour miles per hour.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Helene made landfall in Taylor County just east of the mouth of the Aucilla River, about 10 miles west-southwest of Perry.

The storm struck the state in the Big Bend region, about 38 miles from Steinhatchee, where Hurricane Debby came ashore last month, and about 30 miles northwest of Keaton Beach, where Hurricane Idalia struck in August 2023. A catastrophic, life-threatening storm surge Rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 feet above ground level were forecast for the area, and rainfall totals of 6 to 12 inches are expected, with isolated rainfall totals of about 20 inches.
