Pittsburgh Police K9 officer involved in crash near Smithfield Street Bridge – WPXI

PITTSBURGH – A Pittsburgh police vehicle was involved in a crash near the Smithfield Street Bridge.

The Pittsburgh Police K9 officer was responding to a call around 4:40 p.m. Sunday when the accident occurred.

According to police, the officer was injured at the intersection of Smithfield Street and Fort Pitt Boulevard.

There were four people in the other vehicle involved in the accident. Everyone remained unhurt.

Paramedics examined the officer as a precaution, but he suffered no injuries. The K9 was also uninjured.

The officer will undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing per Pittsburgh Police protocol.

The police vehicle was towed from the scene. The car was damaged but was able to be driven from the scene.

According to police, the patrol car's lights and sirens were on when the accident occurred.
