Man accused of stealing veteran's dog and car after being chased in North Carolina; Dog Still Missing – WPXI

NASH COUNTY, N.C. — The man accused of stealing a local veteran's car while his dog was still inside was arrested after a police chase in North Carolina.

Police have been searching for a 2016 Ford Focus with PA license plate KVR-6440 since it was stolen last week in Mount Pleasant Township from Willard Martz, a local veteran.

Martz's dog, Lucky, a 10-year-old Airedale terrier mix, was also in the vehicle when it was taken.

Pennsylvania State Police said Wednesday they believe Kenneth Crider was responsible for stealing the vehicle and dog. They released photos of him and asked the public for help in finding him.

There were no reports that anyone had spotted Crider, the vehicle or Lucky until the Nash County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina said Sunday that the stolen car was involved in a police chase with its deputies.

Nash County Sheriff's Office Capt. Robert Bowen said the chase began on I-95 after someone reported it as suspicious.

Crider was arrested after officers performed a pit lane maneuver. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries but has since been released. He faces charges from North Carolina and will ultimately be extradited to Pennsylvania.

According to police, Lucky remains missing.

They are now asking people in their area to keep an eye out for him. He is microchipped and wears a black collar with a zippered flea collar.

Anyone with information about Lucky's whereabouts is asked to call 412-298-8611.

The Nash County Sheriff's Office said more details about the pursuit will be released later.
