Bills WR Curtis Samuel was rightfully placed on the B/R list for Week 4

When you look at the Buffalo Bills right now, the first thing that should come to mind is that they play like the best team in the NFL. They lead the league in point differential (+64) and are just one of two teams to have scored more than 100 points in three weeks. Fans may not have expected this kind of production from the start, but here we are.

Part of the reason their offense has been so explosive is because Josh Allen distributes the ball throughout the entire offense and not just to a single man. The “everybody eats” mentality has worked perfectly in Buffalo’s offense through the first three weeks and there’s no reason anyone should question it.

On the other hand, it makes one aspect of the offense seem like a waste of investment this offseason. After the Bills released Gabe Davis, they managed to sign wideout Curtis Samuel from the Washington Commanders to a three-year, $24 million contract. Samuel was added to the roster while Stefon Diggs was on the roster, but that quickly changed when Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans in early April.

Samuel offers plenty of versatility and even had a career year in 2020 with Joe Brady as his offensive coordinator. For the first three weeks, Samuel was very quiet regarding the Buffalo offense.

Bleacher Report's David Kenyon posted an article about five players who signed with new teams this past offseason and who are already looking like busts. Due to the lack of production, Samuel is rightfully on this list.

Allen targeted Samuel just seven times, with the combo producing six catches for 40 yards. Only two Bills wide receivers who have played for the Bills at some point this month have yet to score a touchdown for Buffalo; Samuel and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. To put it in perspective, backup running back Ty Johnson has more touchdowns than Samuel this season.

While the Bills shouldn't be afraid to spread the ball around to multiple targets, Samuel doesn't have the cheapest contract where it's okay not to give him the ball. The Bills invested money in his signing and need to get more production out of him instead of just being a lock.

Joe Brady needs to find a way to feed Samuel more than he has in three games. On the way to a Football on Sunday evenings In the showdown against the Baltimore Ravens, this would be the perfect place for Samuel to make a splash for the Bills.
