Maryland man arrested after high-speed chase in Nash County

NASH COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A Maryland man wanted for stealing a vehicle and a dog out of Pennsylvania was arrested Saturday after a high-speed chase with officers from the Nash County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said it received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the area of ​​Octavia Drive on Saturday.

When they arrived and attempted to identify the driver, he drove off in the vehicle.

Officers led a high-speed chase for the suspect that started north on Interstate 95 and traveled through Halifax and Northampton counties at more than 120 miles per hour.

At some point, the driver crashed into a Nash County officer's vehicle.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol assisted in the pursuit and was able to stop the driver about a mile from the Virginia state line.

Officers arrested 43-year-old Kenneth Wilson Crider of Poolesville, Maryland.

Officers discovered that the vehicle Crider was driving had been stolen out of Pennsylvania and was wanted for his involvement in the theft of a vehicle and a dog named Lucky.

He is accused of the following:

  • Refugee arrest warrant
  • Fictitious registration
  • Reckless driving
  • “Hit and Run” crime.
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Possession of a stolen vehicle
  • Criminals flee to avoid prosecution
  • Failure to stop for lights and sirens

Crider is currently being held without bail at the Nash County Detention Center.

Lucky is currently still missing.

According to the Nash County Sheriff's Office, Lucky was likely released at a North Carolina rest area off I-95.
