No sign of Lucky the dog after car theft suspect arrested in North Carolina

Police believe the dog may have been abandoned at a rest stop in North Carolina.

“I felt so helpless throughout the whole ordeal. It happened so quickly and it’s just unimaginable,” said Willard Martz. Martz, 87, was driving his 10-year-old dog Lucky into the parking lot of Tractor Supply in Mount Pleasant Township last Monday morning. He locked Lucky in the car and went inside. Moments later, he said he felt a hand in his pocket and noticed a man, now identified as Kenneth Crider, speeding toward the car. Then Crider drove off with the car and Lucky. “Who would keep the dog sane after stealing the car?” Martz said. Then on Saturday, September 28, the Nash County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina arrested Crider. According to officers, they received a call about a suspicious vehicle. When they tried to identify Crider, he fled and led police on a chase at speeds exceeding 120 miles per hour. At some point there was even a collision with a deputy vehicle. Crider was arrested and is being held without bail. “We hope even more that Lucky will be found. This is two-thirds of the puzzle, and we need the final piece, and that's what we care about most,” said Martz's daughter, Linda Folino. Lucky is still missing. Officers say they received information that Lucky was likely released at a rest stop on Interstate 95 in North Carolina. And now a company, J&S Towing in Irwin, has reached out to Lucky's family and said this: “If anyone reaches out to them and tells them they have Lucky, they will pick Lucky up where Lucky is and take him home.” “bring us,” Folino said. There is also a $2,500 reward for Lucky's return.
