If the world lets Russian aggression pass, similar wars could break out elsewhere

The international community must not turn a blind eye to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, otherwise similar wars could break out around the world.

This was stated by Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, who spoke at the general debate at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

“What we are witnessing in Ukraine is the aggression of a stronger and more powerful neighbor against a smaller and weaker one. This is clearly a blatant violation of the UN Charter. If we allow this aggression, we open the door to many similar wars around the world,” he said.

The head of government emphasized the need for reform of the UN Security Council, whose work is effectively blocked because the five permanent members abuse the right of veto and put national interests first.

“We urgently need a council that truly represents the international community. Advice suitable for today's world. We must ensure that the distribution of seats is fair. The Council needs stronger voices from the regions that were there.” “A reform of the composition of the Council must be accompanied by a reform of the veto powers,” said Golob.

As Ukrinform previously reported, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said in his speech to the UN General Assembly that a peaceful solution in Ukraine should be based on the UN Charter and not on Moscow's dictates. He is also convinced that without Ukraine there can be no negotiations on Ukraine.
