NOPD investigates fatal two-vehicle crash

According to police, the accident occurred in the 6900 block of Chef Menteur Highway around 8 p.m

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a traffic accident that left a woman dead Sunday evening.

According to police, the accident occurred in the 6900 block of Chef Menteur Highway around 8 p.m

Investigators say the driver of a Ford Fusion was speeding and crashed into the rear of a Nissan Maxima while traveling west on Chef Menteur Highway.

“As the Ford driver struck the rear of the Nissan, he left the road, struck a tree and then struck a telephone pole near the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Chantilly Drive,” the NOPD said. “Investigators say the vehicle then rolled over.”

EMS transported an adult female and male who were in the Nissan to the hospital. The female died a short time later.

Police said the man faces a charge of assault on a police officer following his release from the hospital following a scuffle with police shortly after they arrived to investigate the accident.

It is currently unknown who was driving the Nissan.

No other injuries were reported.
