One dead, another injured in two-car accident on Chef Menteur, police said

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A two-car crash on Chef Menteur Highway Sunday evening (Sept. 29) resulted in the death of a woman and the injury of another person, according to NOPD.

The accident occurred around 8 p.m. when a Ford Fusion, which was reportedly traveling westbound at a high rate of speed, struck the rear of a Nissan Maxima.

After the initial collision, the Ford left the roadway, struck a tree and struck a telephone pole near Chef Menteur Highway and Chantilly Drive. NOPD investigators said the vehicle then overturned.

Emergency responders took a woman from the Ford to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

A man in the same vehicle was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Officials have not yet confirmed who was driving the car at the time of the accident.

Shortly after officers arrived at the scene, the male passenger reportedly became combative, leading to a scuffle with police.

When he is released from the hospital, he is expected to face a charge of assaulting a police officer.

The occupants of the Nissan Maxima were uninjured, police said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at (504) 822-1111.
