Man charged in Muldoon standoff and gunfire appears in court

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The man accused of shooting three people, including a police officer, barricading himself in a home, locking down an entire neighborhood for hours and hitting four public schools, had an attack Sunday his first court appearance where he received his overall bail was set at $20,000.

Jalen Baker, 23, appeared in Anchorage Jail Court where there were several victim statements, including a man who said, “You didn't win, you took almost everything from me” as he turned to Baker. Baker cried in court and recounted a tough childhood.

“I have 'I'm sorry' engraved on my left arm because there's a story behind it,” Baker said. “I drank bleach when I was 13 and it was the first time I puked, and it was after my first fight.”

Prosecutors asked for bail of $50,000. The judge set Baker's bail at $10,000 cash and $10,000 cash secured. House arrest, drug testing, home monitoring, a third-party custodian and keeping victims away are all part of Baker's release conditions set by the judge Sunday.

Baker's next court appearance is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday.
