Firefighters rescued a woman in her 60s and took her to hospital after she was initially found to be in serious condition.

The Cook County coroner later confirmed that the 66-year-old woman died from her injuries. Her identity was not yet known.

Neighbors told AB7 that this was not the first fire in the building.

“They pulled someone out and she was unresponsive,” said resident Cameron Williams. “In fact, about a year ago there was a fire across the hall…You can't replace a life with pictures, but everything else can be replaced.”

Investigators are investigating the cause of the fire.

Further information was not initially available.
