A 29-year-old man dies after a car accident in the Ewa area

EWA (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 29-year-old man died after a car crash on Fort Weaver Road Sunday, according to Honolulu police.

HPD said the crash occurred just before 3 p.m

According to investigators, the man was driving a car traveling north on Fort Weaver Road at a high rate of speed.

The man lost control of the vehicle as he passed through the intersection of Lalaunui Street. The vehicle then went to the right of the side of the road, flew into the air and collided with a tree. It then rolled over several times and hit a street sign before coming to a stop.

According to police, passers-by freed the man from the car. Emergency services transported him to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

HPD said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Investigators said speed appeared to be a factor, but whether drugs or alcohol were involved is unknown at this time.

This is the 34th traffic fatality in Oahu this year, compared to 42 at the same time a year ago.

The crash is still under investigation.
