Police say they are investigating a shooting that occurred west of the Lake Street Metra station in Grayslake and shut down train service in the area Wednesday evening.

Metra reported in an alert around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday that trains had been stopped on the Milwaukee District North line.

Metra said train 2147, which was scheduled to arrive in Fox Lake at 8:15 p.m., was stopped due to police activity.

Additional trains scheduled to arrive and depart Fox Lake on the MD-N Line were also delayed.

Grayslake-Hainesville police said they responded to a call of shots fired west of the Lake Street Grayslake Metra station around 7:45 p.m.

Grayslake-Hainesville Police Chief Jeff Myhra said the incident did not occur at the Metra station, but west of the station.

Myhra said officers recovered numerous spent handgun shell casings near the railroad tracks southwest of the Glen Street Apartments, which are west of the train station and east of Alleghany Road.

No injuries were reported. Myhra said there was no evidence that they shot at anyone or anything in particular.

Metra police were called to assist Grayslake police, who are conducting the investigation.
