Woman killed in Maryland State Police pedestrian-vehicle crash

ANNAPOLIS, MD. – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident Sunday evening in Anne Arundel County.

The pedestrian, a 32-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County Emergency Medical Services personnel. The identity of the deceased will be kept secret until next of kin are notified.

Annapolis Barracks officers responded shortly after 7:30 p.m. on September 29, 2024 to a report of an accident on Solomons Island Road northbound at Route 50. A preliminary investigation indicates the crash involved an unmarked Ford Explorer from the 2016 Maryland State Police was traveling north on Solomons Island Road when it struck a pedestrian who unexpectedly strayed onto the roadway. There is no zebra crossing at the crash site.

The driver, a Maryland State Police trooper, immediately administered first aid to the pedestrian and requested additional assistance. The police officer was not injured in the accident.

The Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration assisted with road closures. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Maryland State Police Crash Team. Once the investigation is complete, it will be presented to the Anne Arundel County District Attorney's Office.

Maryland State Police will also conduct a protocol administrative review of the case.
