Broderick Jones claps back on Twitter when fans criticize him

OT Broderick Jones is undoubtedly frustrated with the Pittsburgh Steelers' first loss of the season and the criticism he's faced all summer, speaking out to those who admonished his play on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. In response to questions from more than half a dozen fans, Jones clapped back at those who called him out for what they saw as poor play.

Here are just some of the comments he has made since the game ended.

And those are just some of the responses he's received since leaving the field. We double-checked and verified that it was Jones' official account, followed by the Steelers' official account.

Pittsburgh's offensive line struggled as the entire offense played sloppy football for much of the game. The running game continued to sputter as RB Najee Harris finished with just 19 yards on 13 carries and RB Cordarrelle Patterson, who provided the spark, left in the first half with an ankle injury. The Steelers finished the day with 122 rushing yards, but 55 of those and the team's two rushing scores came from QB Justin Fields.

In the passing game, Fields was sacked a total of four times, which is a season high. There were a variety of reasons for this, but the ugliest play was Fields being dropped for a 20-yard loss and a fumble, turning a drive that started in Colts territory into a turnover that put Indianapolis on the edge Field goals brought range.

Even though Broderick Jones seems to be in the wrong here, with a free rusher coming from his side, the Steelers are taking away the protection from the blitz. Jones takes on the inside threat, a golden rule in pass protection, and is not responsible for nickel pressure. It's fair to wonder why RB Najee Harris didn't stay in the game to protect on this play, which was likely Fields' fault for not making the adjustment. And the ball never came out hot despite the two unblocked players. Fields ran backwards to avoid the rush before fumbling the ball.

It's not easy for players to feel the wave of criticism that comes after a defeat. The Internet is a brutal place for those who participate in and analyze the game. Jones' frustration is understandable, considering the snide comments he's heard since his troubles over the summer, starting with the Buffalo Bills' preseason disaster and followed by his abysmal performance against the Denver Broncos in Week 2. By and large Overall, he was professional for his age of 23 and has bounced back since that Broncos appearance.

But it's never helpful to reply on Twitter, no matter how good it might feel in the moment. After a tough loss like this, it's best to turn off the phone and prepare for Monday.
