Fact Check: This video does NOT show Lebanese celebrating Nasrallah's death

Did Lebanese citizens celebrate the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah? That's what a video now it's supposedly going viral. It shows two women singing in Arabic in front of a crowd with flags.

One X user wrote alongside that video: “Lebanese citizens also celebrate Kotletification.” [sic] the tyrant Nasrallah. Well deserved! Party all night.” His archive can be viewed Here.

Nasrallah was killed in Israeli airstrikes in Beirut, Lebanon, on September 27.

India Today Fact Check revealed that the viral video is from a protest rally in Lebanon in 2020. It has nothing to do with the ongoing war between Israel and Lebanon.

Our probe

Using reverse search and keywords, we found the video that user “k.reem” shared on TikTok on January 20, 2020. This means that the video cannot have anything to do with Nasrallah's death. The TikTok user captioned the video with words and hashtags like “revolution,” “Lebanon,” and “rage.”

While searching the profile, we found several other videos of the same woman featured in the video. On September 29, the woman clarified in a TikTok post that her video was being distributed with the misleading claim that she was celebrating the death of the Hezbollah chief in Lebanon. She further added that the video is from 2020 and shows the Lebanese revolution. She also wrote that she no longer lives in Lebanon.

The Lebanese revolution started on October 17, 2019 and lasted months. It was a series of anti-government protests in response to corruption and economic crises in the country.

Remarkably, there are Reports that people in some parts of Syria celebrated Nasrallah's death in the streets. However, it is clear that this four-year-old video of a protest in Lebanon does not show this.
