Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident involving a police vehicle

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an unmarked Maryland State Police vehicle while crossing Solomons Island Road in Anne Arundel County on Sunday morning, according to a release from Maryland State Police.

Police responded just after 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 to a report of a crash on northbound Solomons Island Road at Route 50. An unmarked Maryland State Police 2016 Ford Explorer was on Solomons Island Road traveling north when he struck a pedestrian who walked in unexpectedly on the roadway, according to a preliminary police investigation.

The pedestrian, a 32-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County EMS. Police are withholding the identity of the deceased until next of kin are notified, the release said.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Maryland State Police Crash Team. Once the investigation is complete, it will be presented to the Anne Arundel County District Attorney's Office.
