NEW DELHI: An eight-year-old award-winning photographer once again surprised netizens with an incredible photo discovery a rare pink grasshopper.
Jamie, a photographer from the United KingdomShe shared her discovery in a heartwarming video on Instagram, writing a caption: “A rare find by Jamie – Eagle Eyed Girl A pink grasshopper! The pink is due to a genetic mutation.
With infectious enthusiasm, Jamie explains the rarity of this encounter, noting that perhaps only 1% of people have the chance to witness such a phenomenon in their lifetime.
She then reveals the scientific reason for the grasshopper's unique coloration, attributing it to a genetic mutation that results in an overproduction of pink pigments and an underproduction of black.

“Wow, I just found a pink grasshopper.” About 1% of people can see pink grasshoppers in their lifetime. So I'm so happy to be able to see it. Pink locusts, the reason they are pink, is because of their genetic aberration, which means they produce too much pink pigment and not enough black. “That’s why there’s so much pink,” she explains in the video.
Jamie's extraordinary find was well received by social media users, who showered her with praise for her talent and genuine curiosity about nature.
Her video went viral and people commented: “We need more children like this who are connected to nature and knowledgeable. Your parents are doing a great job.”
Meanwhile, another user said: “Let her be the new David Attenborough.”
One netizen wrote: “You remind me of the narrator from National Geographic.”
