JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A months-long investigation into the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old in January has led to the arrest of a fourth suspect.

J'nethen E. Jackson, 20, was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office SWAT/Apprehension Unit on Friday, September 27, in the parking lot of The Reserve at St. Johns River Apartments. His arrest follows three other suspects, including a teenager, who were arrested earlier this year in connection with the January murder.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, patrol officers responded to a burglary at a home on Jan. 1, but were then directed to a shooting two houses away. The 14-year-old victim, Micah Thomas, was found with gunshot wounds and taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries. The medical examiner's office ruled the death a homicide, triggering an investigation lasting several months.

Jackson was located Sept. 27 in the parking lot of the St. Johns River Apartments, where he dropped a 9mm Glock pistol and was taken into custody without incident. Although Jackson is in possession of a firearm and live ammunition, he has no criminal record and is legally permitted to possess a firearm.

Jackson was charged with second-degree murder and armed robbery.

After his arrest, Jackson agreed to speak with investigators and was then taken to the detention center.

Authorities continue to reconstruct the events that led to the teen's death, with Jackson's arrest the latest development in the case.

The investigation is ongoing as the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office works to complete all aspects of the case.
