Man arrested after alleged gunpoint incident in St. Cloud

(KNSI) – A 34-year-old Zimmerman man is facing charges following an alleged pointing-of-a-gun incident on Friday.

According to the Benton County Sheriff's Office, they were contacted by St. Cloud police who said someone reported a driver in a white Chevy Avalanche pointing a gun at them late Friday afternoon. Officers found an SUV matching the description of the suspect vehicle on Highway 23 near 35th Avenue Northeast. Officers made a traffic stop and saw the driver throw something out the window. When the driver stopped, he said someone pointed a gun at him and other vehicles around him and said he had no firearms in his vehicle.

Investigators said they found the object the man allegedly threw out his window. It was a plastic bag containing a white powder believed to be a controlled substance. A press release said a search of his vehicle revealed a suitcase containing a loaded handgun.

The man was arrested and taken to the Benton County Jail to await his initial court appearance.
