Downdetector shows that Verizon's mobile network is down for thousands of users in the US

(Reuters) – Verizon Communications' mobile network was down for thousands of users in the United States on Monday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

According to Downdetector, which tracks outages by compiling status reports from a range of sources, including bugs submitted by users on its platform, there have been more than 100,000 incidents in which people reported problems with the telecom operator's services.

The outages, which began around 9:30 a.m. ET, were reported in places including Chicago, Indianapolis and Minneapolis, Downdetector said.

Some Verizon users said on social media platform X that their phones were stuck in “SOS” mode.

“SOS” appears in the status bars of iPhones when the device is not connected to a cellular network but can still make emergency calls through other carriers, Apple's website says.

Verizon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
