Man charged with murder in Bangor Back in Maine from mass.

The 42-year-old man accused of killing a Bangor woman last week is back in Maine after being brought back from Massachusetts over the weekend.

Richard Thorpe is charged with murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend, 39-year-old Virginia Cookson.

A colleague found Cookson's body in a home on Larkin Street last Wednesday after she failed to show up for work.

The Maine coroner's office ruled her death a homicide on Thursday, and police arrested Thorpe on Friday in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, after a chase in a stolen vehicle that led to curfews at several schools.

Thorpe was being held in the Penobscot County Jail Saturday afternoon.

The Bangor Daily News reports that Thorpe has a lengthy criminal history dating back 25 years, including for offenses that prohibit him from possessing weapons.

The indictment includes multiple counts: theft, burglary, trespassing, drug possession, trafficking in prison contraband, providing alcohol to minors, assault, robbery, carrying concealed weapons, evading police and resisting arrest.
