After coming to NBA Media Day with elaborate hairstyles in recent years, Miami Heat star forward Jimmy Butler took a more reserved approach this year.

Butler appeared with his usual braids and looking like himself. His flight to Miami was delayed due to technical problems and he told reporters: “I'm here. Normal hair. No gimmicks.”

Of course, some fans were disappointed by his lack of “gimmicks”:

Big disappointment

Last year, Butler's arrival as “emo Jimmy” Fans on social media were thrilled when he emerged with straightened hair and a pierced eyebrow. In 2022, he emerged with long locks that had many wondering how quickly his hair grew in the offseason.

Per Barry Jackson of the Miami HeraldButler conducted himself in a completely professional manner during media day. He had no issue with not receiving a new contract as he is entering the final year of his contract. He didn't object to Heat owner Pat Riley's comments that he should talk less and focus on playing more games. While he was noncommittal about his plans for next summer, he said he wants to win in Miami.

Butler did not appear in 65 or more games in any of his five seasons with the Heat. It looks like he's approaching the 2024-25 campaign as a “prove year,” so Miami fans will quickly get over the disappointment of his lack of media day shenanigans as he leads the franchise back into title contention.
