The Alarm's Mike Peters Gets Big News on Fighting Cancer ::antiMusic.com

September 30, 2024

The Alarm frontman Mike Peters shared a new message with fans that his Richter syndrome (a rare lymphocytic leukemia) is in complete remission and that he can now receive a stem cell transplant as the next step in his treatment.

Peters wrote: “Hello everyone, I am writing from Christie Hospital in Manchester, where I have just been informed by Professor Adrian Bloor that after completing the Stellar clinical trial (with the drug alcalabrutinib) and R-Chop chemotherapy I am now in complete remission.

“This means I am now also able to receive a stem cell transplant from an unrelated matched donor. This is significant news, especially considering that I was diagnosed with aggressive Richter syndrome just last April and was told I could manage without treatment. Expect a life expectancy of just 2-12 months .

“I owe this miraculous turnaround to the efforts of everyone at Christie Hospital, Professor Bloor and his outstanding hematology team, the dedication and professionalism of the nursing staff on the day care unit in Ward 26 and the unwavering service of the specialist nurses who…” I am also Dr. Heartin and his team at the North Wales Cancer Treatment Center for leading the clinical trial program, for responding so quickly and referring me to The Christie when symptoms first appeared at the end of April.

“As a Richter Syndrome patient, I know I am extremely fortunate to have achieved remission and I certainly would not have made it this far without the love and support of my wife Jules and my two sons Dylan and Evan. Everyone involved was supportive and helped fuel my passion for music and helped me navigate the often difficult journey to the stage and stay infection-free, especially as I was deep into five cycles of R-Chop chemotherapy located.

“The fans who came to show their loyalty made their presence felt at every show, and I will forever be grateful to them for sharing the concert experience during these challenging final months.”

“However, the ordeal is not over yet; in fact, the biggest challenge of stem cell transplantation can only be overcome once the search for the right blood stem cell donor is complete.”

“The transplant team at Christie is now searching the international registers to find the right person to match me and once that identification is made, I could be called to the hospital at any moment to begin the conditioning process.”

“Just as someone out there in the world unknown to me will help save my life, it’s not too late to get on the registry and save a life.”

“If you are aged between 18 and 55, please follow this link (or in the UK) and join the list now.

“Love. Hope, Strength, Mike Peters, September 30, 2024”
