MLB announces uniform changes to address player outcry

At the MLB All-Star Game, players will again wear their usual home and away jerseys starting in 2025.

The league made the announcement Monday as part of a series of uniform changes to be made over the next two seasons in response to outcry from players.

Players previously wore their primary uniforms from the 1930s through the 2019 All-Star Game in Cleveland. They began wearing uniforms designed specifically for display at the 2021 All-Star Game in Colorado. The change does not include any caps; The players will wear playing caps specially designed for the exhibition.

The other changes announced reverse aspects of the Nike Vapor Premier jersey design introduced this season, which drew widespread criticism from players after the league, Nike and Fanatics worked with the MLBPA to solicit feedback from players.

Changes include greater customization of the shorts, a return to materials used before this season and an increase in lettering for player names on the back of the jerseys.

The league said the jersey changes will not be fully implemented for the 2025 season, citing production timelines. However, road gray uniforms made from the fabric used in the 2023 season will be ready for spring training. By 2026, all uniforms will be made from 2023 season materials.
