Man charged with 8th OWI offense

BUFFALO COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) – Charges were filed today against a Durand man accused of an eighth OWI offense.

Court documents show that 57-year-old Danny Standifer of Durand, Wisconsin, was charged on September 30 with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol – 7th, 8th or 9th offense.

Bail was set at $2,500 for Standifer.

He is scheduled to appear in court on November 6th.

Standifer was pulled over for speeding on State Highway 25 at approximately 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 27. The officer reported that when he got to the driver's side window he could “smell a strong odor of intoxicants coming from inside” and that it was getting stronger as Standifer spoke.

When asked if he had had anything to drink, he admitted to having had two beers around 4pm

Standifer's information showed there were seven prior OWI charges with a blood alcohol concentration limit of .02.

The deputy administered the standardized field sobriety tests. A breathalyzer test showed Standifer's blood alcohol concentration was 0.128. He said he was unaware of any restriction and had consented to a conclusive blood test.
