Major gas leak along Main Street in Henry County

Henry County officials are investigating a large gas leak at a bank.

According to Henry County Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the gas leak is located at the Navy Federal Credit Union at 1835 Jonesboro Road.

Officials said they would evacuate the credit union and may also evacuate other businesses in the area.

The Henry County Fire Department has issued an urgent warning about the gas leak.

Authorities said they are currently reaching a “cap” on gas.

Jonesboro Road was closed between Mount Olive Road and Mill Road but has since reopened to traffic.

The entrance to Best Buy and Navy Federal Credit Union remains closed while crews continue repairs.

Henry County officials are asking residents and motorists to avoid the area if possible. The Henry County Fire Department is monitoring the situation.
