Marana police officer placed on leave for off-duty incident

A Marana police officer has been placed on paid leave while the department investigates an off-duty incident at a popular Northwest bar, authorities say.

Officer Daniel Bonn, who has been with the department for five years, was involved in an off-duty incident in the parking lot of Whiskey Roads, 2290 West Ina Road in Marana, around 2 a.m. Monday, according to a department news release.

Preliminary information shows someone claimed Bonn broke into his pickup truck, said Capt. Tim Brunenkant of the Marana police.

The person claimed that the truck and his property were damaged, he said.

Bonn was not charged with any crime.

Officers from the Pima County Sheriff's Department responded to the incident and took over the criminal investigation. Marana police will conduct a separate internal investigation to ensure department policy is being followed, the release said.
