SOLOMON — A three-vehicle crash east of Safford left two people dead and a third seriously injured early Monday morning.

According to Bart Graves, media specialist for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a Ford Crown Victoria sedan owned by a company that transports people to hospitals for medical appointments crashed into one on westbound U.S. Highway 70 at milepost 345 Farm tractor pulling equipment on a trailer approximately 5:45 a.m. The area is approximately five miles west of the intersection with US Highway 191.

Graves said the male driver and female passenger of the sedan got out and were struck by a westbound Chevrolet Tahoe, causing them to end up under the trailer.

The man died immediately, the woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to a hospital in Tucson for treatment. Her condition is currently unknown. DPS has not released the names of those involved in the crash.

The male driver of the Chevy Tahoe also died at the scene. Graves said the investigation is looking into the possibility that the driver of the Tahoe may have had a medical issue at the time of the collision. The driver of the agricultural tractor was not injured.
