Hemet man charged with murder in teenage girl's fatal 2020 fentanyl overdose – Press Enterprise

A 20-year-old Hemet man is charged with murder in Riverside County after he was accused of selling an illegal substance containing fentanyl to a teenage girl who fatally overdosed in 2020.

The teenager did not know she had taken fentanyl and was found unresponsive on July 28, 2020, in the 1900 block of Warwick Street in San Jacinto, officials said. She died at the scene of fentanyl poisoning, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a news release Monday.

Authorities did not say what substance the teenager believed she had purchased.

In September 2022, investigators from the sheriff's Overdose Death Investigations and Narcotics Unit took over the case and began searching for the suspect responsible for supplying the fentanyl-laced substance. On September 3, 2024, authorities filed charges against Julius Brown, who is currently in custody in Arizona on an unrelated case.

Once Brown's case is resolved in Arizona, he will be transferred to Riverside County, where he faces murder charges, the sheriff's department said.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released.
