Video forecast for Monday evening

This week will be unseasonably warm with highs in the lower 90s and lows in the low 70s. Things are now looking busier than ever in the tropics this hurricane season.

Tonight and tomorrow: Any clouds from today will clear as we head into the overnight hours. Lows will be in the upper 60s. Another warm day is expected Tuesday with high temperatures in the lower 90s. A scattered shower or two cannot be ruled out, but the vast majority will remain dry. There will be a slight humidity, but it will not be oppressive.

Next: The general pattern will remain the same on Wednesday. Highs will remain warm in the lower 90s, there will be a slight humidity and there is no chance of rain. Some changes will be noticeable from Thursday. Humidity levels will increase across the area, increasing humidity and the chance of rain. The heaviest rain is expected on Friday and Saturday before humidity levels fall again towards the end of the weekend.

The Tropics:

Tropical Storm Kirk is strengthening fairly quickly. It has winds of 60 miles per hour and is moving west at 12 miles per hour. Kirk is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by midweek as it moves northwest through the Atlantic. Future Kirk currently has no direct impact on landing.

Tropical Depression Joyce is a tropical cyclone. It has winds of 35 miles per hour and is moving north at 2 miles per hour. Joyce will be post-tropical for the next 12-24 hours.

Isaac is now a post-tropical system.

A low pressure area over the southwestern Caribbean Sea continues to cause disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity. Environmental conditions could favor gradual development and a tropical depression could form in a few days while the system is over the southern Gulf of Mexico or the northwestern Caribbean Sea. Stakeholders along the U.S. Gulf Coast should continue to monitor the progress of this system.

Showers and thunderstorms continue to increase in association with a tropical wave located several hundred miles south of the Cape Verde Islands. Higher winds appear to favor further development and it is very likely that a tropical depression will form within a few days as it slowly moves westward across the eastern tropical Atlantic.
