El Paso citizens travel to combat Hurricane Helene

EL PASO, TX – Hurricane Helene has spread across the southeastern United States, devastating thousands.

Humberto “Beto” Flores, an El Paso resident, headed to Florida with the Red Cross last weekend to help in any way he could.

Beto estimated this was his 15th trip with the Red Cross to assist in disaster situations. He was in Florida two years ago to help with the aftermath of Category 5 Hurricane Ian.

“My dad, my mom, they always taught us to help others…I can make a difference somehow.”

ABC-7 spoke with Flores as he loaded trucks in a Walmart parking lot in Tallahassee. He said the Red Cross gave them the green light yesterday to head to Tampa Bay, where they would deliver supplies to four shelters in the area.

“For me personally, you know, right now, living in El Paso and stuff, we're doing well there. Sometimes we complain about all the dust we get, you know? And when you witness what we're experiencing here, or when you look at the aftermath of a tornado, you say the wind over there isn't that bad.

If you would like to get involved with the Red Cross, you can find the volunteer application here.
