The PlayStation Network is down and PS5 and PS4 players are offline

Gamers hoping to spend an evening in front of their PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 may be out of luck, unless they enjoy single-player experiences (have you tried?). AstroBot?). Sony's gaming network suffers a massive outage on Monday evening.

The official PSN service status page confirms issues affecting everything: “Other, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, Web.” If it's PlayStation, it doesn't work. The latest update, dated 9:21 p.m. ET, says that while playing, “you may experience difficulty launching games, apps, or network features.” We're working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

For my part, I received “PS5 error code WS-116522-7” when trying to launch a game, and Sony's dedicated webpage told me that “the system software update failed.”

Players cannot log in, play multiplayer games, or play single-player games that require connecting and logging in online first (offline games seem to work fine).

There is no information about what is causing the problem and there is no estimated time when it might be fixed. This doesn't appear to be related to the bug that was breaking graphics on the home screen of PS5 games – a bug that was only fixed a few hours ago – but as soon as we hear more information we'll let you know.
