Picayune Police Respond to Multiple Incidents – Picayune Article

Officers responded to several incidents in Picayune this week, including a reported shooting at Highland Community Hospital, drug-related arrests and an apartment shooting.

On September 26 at 2:53 p.m., officers responded to a call at Highland Community Hospital. Helena Malone reported that she shot her mother and needed help. Before officers arrived, Malone also shot himself. Both were transported to the hospital emergency room but later died from their injuries. The incident occurred in a vehicle near the emergency department drop-off area. No other people were injured.

In another incident on Sept. 26, Picayune Police Department SWAT investigators conducted a probable cause traffic stop on Palestine Road near Union School Road. The vehicle, a red Nissan Sentra, was searched and the driver, Alex Cooper, and passenger, Chantea Brown, were found to be in possession of cocaine intended for distribution. Both were charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a church and tampering with physical evidence.

Following the traffic stop, investigators executed a search warrant at 602 Richard Street, the residence of Travis Holloway. Holloway fled the area on foot but was arrested. He attempted to throw away illegal narcotics, which K-9 Trea later found. Kelvin Stallings was also in the apartment at the time of the search warrant. Through investigation, investigators determined that Holloway had been in a vehicle with Stallings prior to their arrival. Both Holloway and Stallings were charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine), while Holloway was also charged with tampering with evidence and resisting arrest by fleeing.

On September 27th at 11:59 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired at a residence on Nixon Street. At the time, a grandmother and her two young grandchildren were inside and bullets were flying near their location. Investigators believe the suspect was on foot and fired around 14 shots at close range. Investigators are reviewing video surveillance at multiple locations in connection with this incident. Anyone with information or video footage about the area is asked to contact Capt. Rhonda Johnson or contact dispatch at 601-749-5482.
