Neighbors recall arguments with woman charged with murder: 'She was hostile'

SAN ANTONIO – A woman is in custody at the Bexar County Jail on a murder charge after police say she struck and killed her neighbor with her car.

Police records show Anna O'Rourke hit 56-year-old Stephan Sanders in her northwest San Antonio neighborhood on Putman Farm Road.

The accident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on Monday morning.

According to preliminary reports, officers responded to a call from a woman who said she had hit Sanders and wanted police to check on his condition. Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both neighbors and police said O'Rourke and Sanders had a long history of clashes that often ended with lights and sirens.

But neighbors said Sanders isn't the only one who allegedly has these problems.

“She was very aggressive and hostile,” one woman said. “She harassed my husband and father while they were trying to do the gardening. She threatened to unleash her dogs on me while I was walking with my baby.”

These are just a few of several stories shared by neighbors, including a woman whose relationship with Sanders dates back to when she was five years old.

She said she and her mother cared for him until his death, leaving flowers and a balloon at his home as a final act of kindness.

Now they hope O'Rourke never returns to their neighborhood.
