Detroit Lions Carlton Davis felt NFL officials were on the Seahawks' side

The Detroit Lions secondary was hit with significant pass interference penalties early in the season.

Veteran Carlton Davis III pleaded with the officials once during the first half against the Seattle Seahawks because he was subbed out for Seahawks fullback DK Metcalf. He and Terrion Arnold were both subbed three times in Monday's 42-29 win over the Seahawks.

“I don’t want to be fined because they are sensitive about this. I honestly can't say what I want to say – but honestly today I felt like they were just on the Seahawks' side. “I don’t know what I did,” Davis said. “Maybe I should take her to dinner or something.” I don't know, follow them on Instagram. Today wasn't my day.

“They just called private investigators. Not even touching, it wasn't even 'Oh my God.' “It was just touch, touch, bang, bang – this is football that fights,” Davis explained. “That’s what’s going to happen when you get a physical cornerback and a physical receiver. You have to let us play the ball.”

The Lions enjoy playing a physical style of football that focuses on man marking, but they need to find a way to continue playing within the rules.

Davis hopes officials will eventually decide not to throw flags unless there is a clear attack.

“Let’s just play ball. Don't throw fouls. Unless it’s like a grave,” Davis said. “Or you can say clearly, come on, let’s play along.”

With a lot on the line, Davis explained that he felt the officials throwing so many flags kept the Seahawks in the game longer than possible

“I lost my temper. I did, but rightly so because I don’t plan on doing it, I just can’t control it,” Davis said. “It's an emotional game, you know what I mean? And, you know, there's a lot at stake. They push across the field and these flags keep them in the game. It prolongs this dynamic. So that’s how it is.” Where the passion comes from. Let's play. And if they can't open up, then that's what it is.
