Marana police officer placed on administrative leave for alleged off-duty intoxication

MARANA, Ariz. – A Marana police officer is on administrative leave after he allegedly broke into another person's car.

It is said to have happened while he was drunk and off duty leaving a club early Sunday morning.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. Sunday at a club on the Northwest Side.

In a Facebook post, the victim says his car was broken into and leveled by police. The victim is currently on leave from the Marana Police Department as the department launches an investigation.

The Facebook post is gaining traction. A man claims he was walking to his truck after last call at the Whiskey Roads club on the Northwest Side when he encountered off-duty Marana police officer Daniel Bonn, who broke into his car and responded belligerently.

Now Marana police have placed one of them on administrative leave and the Pima County sheriff is investigating whether there was criminal wrongdoing.

“We demand the highest standards from our officers. And if there have been any policy violations, we will exercise our due diligence. Of course, we take these allegations very seriously. We're following up on them and we're going to work with the county. “We're interviewing the attorney's office as well as the sheriff's department and then of course doing our part to investigate the matter administratively,” said Capt. Tim Brunenkant of the Marana Police Department.

As for the third, police confirm the man is not affiliated with the department.

“We have confirmed with the Sheriff's Department that this third individual is not associated with the Marana Police Department and that this third individual is an unidentified or uninvolved party to this incident.”

The victim claims his truck now has $800 worth of damage.

We asked this person for an interview but did not receive a response.

Officer Bonn has been with the department for five years. He remains on administrative leave until MPD gets to the bottom of the matter.
