HMD “Moon Knight” leaked with flagship specs and quad camera

HMD, the former Nokia smartphone brand, is preparing to launch a new premium phone. In recent years, the company has focused on low- and mid-range devices, although without making much of a splash in the market. However, the rumored HMD Moon Knight could finally change things up with some flagship specs.

Leaked HMD Moon Knight specs suggest a return to the flagship phone segment

As reported by @smashx_60 on X/Twitter, HMD is working on a flagship phone codenamed “Moon Knight” or “TA-1691.” According to the post, the smartphone will be based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. This means that it won't be among the most powerful devices on the market (especially if Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4/Snapdragon 8 Elite), but it still deserves the title of flagship.

The device will feature a Full HD+ P-OLED display with a refresh rate of 144Hz. The back of the phone is said to house a quad-camera system. It seems that HMD wants to return to the days when Nokia devices were known for their cameras, albeit without the Nokia branding. The post also mentions the presence of a POGO pin, suggesting that it will support modular accessories like the latest HMD Fusion.

Other expected features include a pair of stereo speakers, an aluminum frame and of course 5G support. The source does not provide any further information about the specifications of the device. However, smashx_60 promises to reveal more technical specifications and renders “soon”.

HMD's last mobile flagship launched in 2019

HMD's last attempt in the premium segment was the Nokia 9 PureView. The device was launched in early 2019 and surprised the industry with a 5-sensor rear camera setup. However, the camera system did not work as expected. The sensors did not offer different modes, but all took photos at the same time. The phone then processed all the images to provide an improved final image.

Unfortunately, things didn't work smoothly with the device. A combination of poor marketing and broken support promises led to failure. Even Light, the company that offered its camera technology, pulled out of the smartphone market. Hopefully this time things will be different and Moon Knight can take on the highly competitive Android industry. The HMD Fusion is an attractive device, but it's certainly not what flagship users are looking for.
