SUV passenger killed in hit-and-run on highway in Brookfield

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 94 Monday that left one person dead. It happened at 4:10 p.m. on westbound I-94 near Moorland Road in Brookfield. A witness told crash investigators that a vehicle struck a Jeep SUV with three people inside. The Jeep lost control, crossed all lanes and crashed into the concrete guardrail in the middle. A passenger in the SUV died. Two other women, aged 57 and 70, were injured but are expected to survive. The woman who died was 93-year-old Mary Phillips of Colgate. WSP told WISN 12 News that the driver who caused the accident left the scene. Investigators believe that part of the vehicle that caused the accident was found at the scene and is blue. Investigators did not provide any information about the make or model, but assume that it could be a sports car. All lanes were reopened around 7:40 p.m. Monday. At one point, traffic was backed up all the way to the Zoo Interchange in Milwaukee. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
