The driver of the fatal motorcycle accident was drunk

A man who died after a motorcycle accident Saturday was drunk and driving the vehicle illegally, authorities said.

Lucas Keith Horsch, 21, was riding a 2024 Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on Cooley Lake Road near Switzerland Street in Commerce Township shortly after midnight Saturday, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Monday press release with.

The motorcycle crossed the center line, skidded and left the road, authorities said. Horsch fell from the vehicle, which broke down in the driveway of a private home.

Horsch, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to a nearby hospital by Commerce Township Fire Department paramedics. He died from his injuries Saturday evening, the sheriff's office said.

An autopsy conducted Sunday revealed that Horsch was drunk at the time of the accident and had a blood alcohol level of 0.12%. The legal limit for driving in Michigan is 0.08%.

Authorities also said he did not have a motorcycle license and his lack of experience may have been a factor in the accident.
