Bengaluru man stabbed after stepping on neighbor's foot, accused arrested | Bengaluru

A minor disagreement in Bengaluru turned deadly on Sunday when a 52-year-old man was killed by his neighbor after accidentally stepping on his foot, leading to an altercation.

What led to Murthy's murder?

According to police, Murthy and his relatives were drinking at his brother's house along with neighbors including Kirthi. As the evening progressed, Murthy accidentally stepped on Kirthi's foot, which sparked an argument. In a fit of rage, Kirthi allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed Murthy, DH reported.

During interrogation, Kirthi admitted to buying the knife online and claimed it was only meant to intimidate Murthy. However, the situation escalated because both men were under the influence of alcohol. Police have confirmed that a case has been registered and further investigations are underway.

In 2023, Bengaluru city recorded a total of 12,627 crimes. Vehicle theft was the highest in the list with 5,909 cases.

Officials announced that of the 207 total murders committed in the city in 2023, 202 have been discovered. The main reasons for the murders were:

1. Sudden provocation

2. Illegal matters

3. Family matters and

4. Among other things, personal enmity.

The detection of these cases has declined in recent years. While only 38.5 percent of cases were discovered in 2023, it was already 45 percent in 2022. Therefore, about 3,600 of the total 12,627 cases were detected in 2023, according to data released by the Bengaluru City Police Department.
