Woman arrested after ax attack during Albuquerque home break-in

Police made contact with the victim outside the home after she managed to escape her attacker. She wasn't expecting anyone and ignored it, according to court documents. She then told police that a person was seen walking past a window. That woman, identified as 31-year-old Laura Barta of Albuquerque, told her to leave the house, claiming it belonged to her friend. Barta is accused of breaking a glass door and entering the house through the back door. The victim said Barta then followed her as she tried to escape and hit her on the shoulder with the ax, according to court documents. Barta faces charges of aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, criminal damage and theft. Court records show several items were stolen from the home. Police responded to a caller who reported being chased by a woman with an axe. The victim told police she was on the phone when the doorbell rang. Police made contact with the victim outside the home after she managed to escape her attacker.

She then told police that a person was seen walking past a window. That woman, identified as 31-year-old Laura Barta of Albuquerque, asked her to leave the house, claiming it belonged to her friend.
