Authorities say a police officer died after he was struck by a vehicle while investigating a crash

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (Gray News) – A Texas state trooper has died days after he was struck by a vehicle while investigating another accident.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said 25-year-old Trooper Kevin Alexia Ramirez Vasquez was struck by a vehicle on Sept. 17 while investigating a crash on State Highway 302 in Ector County.

Vasquez was initially hospitalized with serious injuries but was then flown to another medical center and died later Saturday.

“Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez honorably served this state until his last breath,” said Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw. “His commitment to keeping the roads safe, protecting the people of Texas and the sacrifices he made will never be forgotten.”

Vasquez, who had three siblings, joined the Texas Department of Public Safety in 2023 and was most recently stationed in Odessa. Prior to prosecution, Vasquez served in the U.S. Army and was on duty in the National Guard at the time of his death.

“I ask that you keep his family, friends and colleagues in your prayers in the difficult days ahead,” McCraw added.
